Dude
We've left Montevideo after two days and a week in Buenos Aires. We're on the beach in Piriapolis near Punta del Este, body surfing n' drinking vino. The wines of Argentina are great as you know but I thought I'd comment on the wine in Uruguay...it's wonderful, a welcome surprise. The main grape is tannat but the country grows most of the varietals available in Argentina and blends them with this interesting grape. The tannat is dry, mild, herbal and slightly tannic and stands up well on its own. But in a cuvee it adds a vegetal quality, like the hint of parsley in a rioja. There are many vintners here but a couple of favorites so far are Uxmal, whose Malbec Bonarda blend is delicioso (so is their Cab) and Paisano which makes a Vino Verde called Vino Virgin that was the best Verde I've ever had...and I drank a lot of them in Portugal. The wine is inexpensive in Buenos Aires and Uruguay, $3-$10 in the grocery store. The Uxmal was $8. Well, Ricardo, the pounding surf calls. We'll send some pictures to your email and be in touch.
Suerte,
Mark, Lis, and Charlie

Thanks for both of you for such a warm welcome today! (Feb 6)

And the wine selection... simply wonderful. Who knew you could get such wine at such low prices!

Next time, we will be on our bikes. And maybe find a B&B!

Well, it started off slow, but picked up steam until the hubbub reached the level at which Jerry becomes deaf. Fun, as always.

And I think it should be the nauties!

Bailey got lucky in more ways than one...chocolate is toxic to a lot of dogs, kinda scary when they get into the chocolate, because they are very attracted to it (as when our girl Sylvie found a box of truffles in a guest's luggage and ate the whole box in mere seconds...fortunately, she had no ill effects...

Just wanted to tell you how much Bailey enjoyed Theo's new chocolate and pepper combination . He sniffed it out and polished off half before I found the two of them.

Great party, cool post. Julia said, "Rich writes well." I said, "He writes just the way he talks." She said, "That's a real talent."
Happy New Year to you and Pat!

Great post, Mr Rich. I assume you'd been quaffing the bubbly? With posts like this I may just have to add you to my blogroll, if that is I ever emerge from my efforts to create a site (sorta) for islanders to discuss and share info about The Ferry. Colleen and I plan to launch it Jan 3, warts and all, and then leave town for 2+ weeks in a warm, sunny, undisclosed and internet-free location. Happy new year.
